About Simon

I have a Queensland University Diploma of Education for English Language Arts & History, a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and I am certified to teach the International Baccalaureate (IB) English A: Language & Literature programme, the Advanced Placement (AP) English Language & Composition and the English Literature & Composition programmes. In June 2014, I also participated in a Category 3 IB workshop for Theory of Knowledge. There are also numerous workshops that such as 21st Century Learning, Understanding by Design, Differentiation in the Classroom, 6 traits + 1 Assessment, ESL in the Mainstream and regular in-service collaboration with colleagues from all grade levels.

About the lesson

My goal in teaching is to offer a multicultural perspective on current curriculum and also to foster long-term skills for life after school. I immediately establish a sense of comfort and intellectual freedom in my classroom but maintain high expectations from students by continually challenging students with problems that require critical thinking and teamwork. These learning experiences endow them with the ability to harvest quality data with a discerning eye from a wide range of sources and to enable them to communicate effectively in different narrative genres. Most importantly, my role is to praise, praise, praise students their first few uncertain steps towards reading and writing proficiency. Then to set them on a path of self-education which will ultimately last for the duration of their professional lives. I too am a life-long learner, committed to ongoing professional development to ensure that students gain the most from my teaching.
