About Gunita

I am a Politics graduate and hold a Masters in Human Rights with a genuine passion for clear, compelling writing — the skill that ran through everything I studied and that I now love helping younger students develop.

I have worked as an English tutor and have since worked with students across Year 4 to Year 11 including tutoring for GCSE English and 11+ preparation, supporting them through some of the most important academic milestones of their school careers.

I believe that every student has the ability to express themselves well on paper — sometimes they just need someone to show them how. My approach is patient, encouraging, and always tailored to the individual. I take time to understand where each student is starting from and what they specifically need to improve, whether that is essay structure, reading comprehension, vocabulary, or exam confidence.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring
I offer one-to-one English tutoring tailored to students preparing for their GCSEs or the 11+ exam as well as tutoring English for students in Year 4 to Year 11. My lessons are designed to build genuine confidence in reading, writing, and comprehension — not just exam technique, but the ability to think and communicate clearly.

Teaching methodology
I take a structured but flexible approach. Each lesson begins by reviewing what the student found challenging since we last met, then moves into focused skill-building — whether that's close reading, essay planning, vocabulary, or timed practice under exam conditions. I use real past papers alongside my own materials, and I adapt my style to how each student learns best. For 11+ students, I give particular attention to verbal reasoning, comprehension, and creative writing. For GCSE, I focus on essay structure, analytical writing, and the specific demands of the relevant exam board.

Lesson length
All lessons are one hour, which I find long enough to make meaningful progress while keeping focus sharp — particularly for younger students.

Qualifications and experience
I hold a degree in Politics and Masters in Human Rights which gave me a strong foundation in critical analysis, argument construction, and high-level writing — skills I now pass on to my students. I have hands-on paid tutoring experience working with students at both GCSE and 11+ level, and I bring real-world communication expertise to my teaching.

Who the lessons are for
My tutoring is aimed at students aged 9–16: those sitting the 11+ and hoping to secure a place at grammar or independent school, and GCSE students looking to improve their English Language or Literature grade. I'm particularly effective with students who struggle to structure their writing or express their ideas clearly on paper.
