About Jonathan
I have been teaching Flute since 2015, working with students of all ages and abilities. Many of my pupils have studied with me for several years, progressing from beginners to confident, capable flautists. A number have successfully completed ABRSM graded exams, while others have focused on developing strong practical and musical skills without exams. I have extensive experience teaching adult learners, whether they are complete beginners or returning to the instrument after a long break. As a qualified primary school teacher, I am also highly experienced in teaching children of all ages and adapting lessons to suit individual learning styles. I hold a Master’s degree in Music from King’s College London, allowing me to draw on a wide range of repertoire to support each student’s interests and development. I previously studied Flute with Kate Hill at the Royal Academy of Music, and bring a strong technical foundation and broad musical insight into every lesson. Above all, I love teaching and supporting students as they grow in confidence, technique, and enjoyment of music.

Our lessons will focus on developing good playing technique while making reading music notation fun and approachable! I have several music-based games and activities for learners of all ages to engage with learning Flute in a fun and exciting way. I also try to use examples of your favourite kinds of music as activities within lessons alongside developing technique through selected method books. I really value the role of listening to music while learning the Flute, so alongside practice, I usually give some selected listenings to help you develop a greater awareness of style and musicality. Most importantly, I am entirely flexible in teaching and will work with you to create a personal learning plan to help you achieve your goals!
