About Richard James
Hello, I’m Rich.
I am an experienced English teacher and tutor with teaching experience dating back to 2008 across schools, colleges, online learning and one-to-one support.
My specialist area is GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature, particularly helping students improve exam technique, written analysis, essay structure and confidence.
I have worked with students across KS3, GCSE and 13+ preparation, including learners who benefit from a calmer and more structured approach.
My background includes classroom teaching, tutoring, online education and individual support, and I aim to create lessons that are practical, supportive and focused on clear progress.
I believe many students already have the ability to succeed. Often they simply need guidance in how to think through questions, organise ideas and apply knowledge effectively under exam conditions.
Alongside improving grades, I aim to help students become more confident and independent learners.

I am an experienced English teacher and tutor specialising in GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature, with teaching experience dating back to 2008 across schools, colleges, online learning and one-to-one tuition.
My lessons are aimed mainly at KS3, GCSE and 13+ students, with a strong focus on exam preparation, essay structure, written analysis and confidence building.
I work with students following AQA and Edexcel specifications and help with:
• GCSE English Language
• GCSE English Literature
• Exam technique and revision planning
• Essay writing and structure
• Creative writing
• Reading comprehension
• KS3 preparation
• 13+ English support
Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they have never been shown how to approach exam questions clearly.
Lessons are tailored to the student and may include:
analysing questions
paragraph structure
literature comparison
model answers
timed writing practice
feedback and corrections
confidence and independent learning strategies
I also offer a structured 14-week GCSE preparation programme, ideal for Year 10 students moving into Year 11 and students preparing for final examinations.
My aim is not simply improving grades, but helping students become more confident and independent learners.
