About Chris
Hi! I'm Chris, and I have over a decade's experience working in the music industry and teaching music in the classroom, in workshops and through private music tuition. I work actively in the music industry as a composer and songwriter, and use this professional experience to inform my teaching. My experience teaching music includes running a Saturday Music School for primary and secondary aged students, in which I design and teach bespoke arrangements of famous rock and pop songs for Guitar, Bass guitar, Drums, Keyboard and Vocals. I have also worked in secondary schools as a classroom music teacher over the last four years. Through this, I have taught students various styles of musicianship, and helped to develop students' composition and performance skills at GCSE level and above. In my lessons, you will learn and improve upon fundamental guitar skills through learning songs, learning to improvise and developing your own guitar practice. I strongly believe that music is play: whilst understanding music theory is an incredibly important and powerful skill, my primary goal is for you as a student to fall in love with playing the guitar, not just learning about it. I am experienced in helping students progress towards their Graded exams, but I am equally happy to teach an informal, non-graded pathway based on personal progression. I am also always keen to integrate Music Composition and Music Production skills into my teaching. I believe that it is very valuable not just to learn how to perform your instrument, but how to record it, write for it and to make money off it! I am very happy to teach from my experience as a composer and as a professional performer on topics surrounding music production, and music business. I prioritise clear communication, active listening and a warm, encouraging approach to ensure my students succeed and build confidence in their musical skills. I am happy to offer 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute lessons, and am open to suggestions based on your needs.
