As a high school teacher, I always start by trying to relate the concept we are learning to previously learned topics. In addition I use direct instruction followed by guided examples and working up to independent practice. I am a firm believer in the "I do, we do, you do" teaching philosophy and always try to teach using easy to understand language and examples.
