About Tara
I am passionate about all things literary. Throughout high school, English was my favourite and best-performing subject. My love of it inspired me to pursue Law and English at UNSW, which allows me to spend my time reading and thinking critically. As a tutor, I want students to achieve their very best potential. I understand the pressures of high school and strive to not only help students achieve their goals, but also inspire lasting confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
My credentials:
I am a highly qualified tutor. I have over two years of HSC and primary school tutoring experience, having worked both independently and for OpenWisdom Education and Alchemy Tuition. I have created an extensive set of resources which cater to a variety of skillsets. I am accomodating for students with learning difficulties, as well as high-performers such as selective high school students. My time at OpenWisdom Education, in which I tutored a range of students for the 2023 HSC, allowed me to perfect my teaching and marking skills. I am up-to-date with all syllabi and well-versed in exam-style questions, with my own responses to share with students.
During high school, I was a HSC Distinguished Achiever and excelled in English. I came first in English Advanced, English Extension 1, and English Extension 2 in my 2021 cohort at St George Girls High School (a selectively competitive school).
My 2021 HSC marks are as follow:
- English Advanced (95/100)
- English Extension 1 (48/50)
- English Extension 2 (49/50).
As one of the top performers in English Extension 2, my Major Work was also shortlisted for publication in the Young Writers Showcase 2021.

I cater to a student's needs by tailoring lesson plans to his/her school's syllabus and upcoming assessment tasks.
My methods include:
- Providing detailed resources at a Band 6 level;
- Analysing content in-depth with students;
- Providing marking and extensive feedback on set tasks and school essays;
- and encouraging students to realise their potential at all stages of their educational journey
I begin each lesson by revisiting the previous week's homework task. This tends to be based on the assessment format to be tested in that term of school, such as a practice essay response for a written submission, or chapter-related questions for an assigned text that will be tested in an exam.
For the first lesson, I prioritise identifying a student's weaknesses and strengths. Often, I do this by having the student sit a comprehension test. Based on how they find this experience, I determine what areas require improvement.
Following this assessment, I create a plan targeting any upcoming assessment task/s. Preparing for assessments is the key focus of my lessons, and I ensure there is ample time for the student to gain confidence beforehand. For example, if the assessment is a hand-in essay, I will create a plan as to how to perfect the essay over the course of several weeks. This will require the student to prepare several drafts based on ideas we brainstorm together and chapter analysis I lead them through. I will give extensive feedback via annotations on these essay drafts so that by the time of submission, the essay is able to receive a high grade. Most importantly, I always ensure it is the student's own writing and ideas that comprise the finished product.
Above all, I want to inspire confidence in students. Alongside any constructive feedback, I am sure to give plenty of positive comments to remind a student that they are more than capable.
