About Caleb

Teaching reading is especially meaningful to me because literacy opens doors to confidence, curiosity, and independence. I enjoy helping students discover that reading is not simply a school subject, but a skill that can empower them throughout their lives. Seeing a student grow more confident, engaged, and proud of their progress is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring. I care about building a love and enjoyment of reading as much as building academic skills. I understand that every student learns differently, and I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged, capable, and motivated to succeed.

Outside of academics and work, I am a marathon runner and volunteer at a local animal shelter.

About the lesson

Hello! My name is Caleb, and I am currently studying for a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. I am passionate about literacy and helping children develop the confidence and skills they need to become successful, enthusiastic readers.

I have three years of experience working as a reading tutor with children aged 5–12, supporting pupils with phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and overall reading confidence. I adapt each lesson to suit the child’s individual learning style and pace, ensuring sessions are both engaging and effective.

My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and highly personalised. I use interactive reading activities, guided reading techniques, comprehension exercises, and positive reinforcement to help children make steady progress while enjoying the learning process. I believe that building confidence is just as important as building ability, and I aim to create a supportive environment where pupils feel comfortable asking questions and developing their skills.

Lessons are typically 45–60 minutes long and are carefully structured to provide a balance of focused learning and engaging activities. Depending on the pupil’s needs, sessions may include phonics practice, reading aloud, comprehension tasks, vocabulary-building exercises, and regular progress reviews.

Alongside my tutoring experience, I have spent the past three years working as a professional writer in the legal field as a paralegal. This role has strengthened my written communication, analytical thinking, organisation, and attention to detail, all of which enhance my ability to support pupils in developing strong literacy and comprehension skills.

My lessons are suitable for students of all ages and of all reading abilities, whether they are just beginning their reading journey, need extra support catching up, or would benefit from additional challenge and enrichment. My goal is to help every pupil grow into a confident, capable reader through lessons that are supportive, structured, and enjoyable.
