I make sure that I look presentable when tutoring. I am very polite and make sure that the student understands what it is I am teaching them and why it is useful and important.
I always leave time for student questions/feedback and make sure that I provide adequate feedback to the student and that I've properly addressed any misconceptions.

My lessons are usually structured with a "Do Now" or introductory task that I believe should be accessible to the student(s).
I often include word problems in my lessons, as this also helps with reading comprehension and looking for context clues.
When the student seems to have a decent understanding of how to solve a certain type of problem, I "gradually release" them into more independent work.
