About Tahiyat
I am a first-year University of Waterloo student in the Faculty of Science, studying Science and Aviation with a minor in Physics and Mathematics. I tutor Math, Physics, Statistics, and related sciences for a wide range of levels, including middle school, high school, and early university. I can also support IB, AP, and Canadian/Ontario curricula. Academically, I earned 5 A* grades at O-Levels (Ordinary Level examinations—an internationally recognized secondary qualification commonly completed around Grade 10) in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, and Economics, along with 3 A grades. I then completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) and achieved 41/45, including Physics HL and Mathematics HL. From Grades 8–12, I was ranked 2nd in my year group. As a tutor, I’m supportive and patient, but I also keep students accountable. I work particularly well with students who feel behind, lack confidence, or want stronger exam performance.

I have 4 years of tutoring experience, including 4 years of in-person teaching and 2 years of online teaching within that time, so I am comfortable teaching in both formats and adjusting lessons for different student needs. My teaching approach is structured, organized, and highly student-focused. I maintain a Notion/Excel tracker. This is to record lesson hours, classes conducted, and each student’s performance so I can monitor progress over time and identify strengths and weak areas clearly. I strongly believe in practice-based learning, so I use past papers and targeted practice sets. But before moving into past-paper training, I first make sure the student is fully comfortable with the concepts and that I am following the specific textbook/curriculum used by the student’s school or institution. I also create (and help students create) clear formula cheat sheets, topic summaries, and revision notes to make studying faster and more effective. I also bring in additional practice problems from external sources when needed to build deeper understanding beyond the textbook. After completing each topic, I give a topic test to check understanding and improve exam readiness. I also adapt my teaching style depending on the student (for example: step-by-step concept building, more visual explanations, more problem-solving practice, or exam-focused drills). At the beginning of working with a new student, I provide weekly progress reports, and as the student settles into a routine, I move to monthly or bi-monthly reports covering progress, performance trends, focus areas, and how I can further improve my teaching to support their learning. My goal is not just to help students finish homework, but to help them truly understand the material, perform well in exams, and become independent learners over time.
