About Emma
Hello, I’m Emma and I have recently completed my final year of BA Hons English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. In my preliminary examinations, I obtained a 2.1 with a 68% average, and since then I have received the Boulter Prize and Collections Prize for work in English (2021) and an Exhibition (2022). Before University, I completed the International Baccalaureate, with 42 total points and 7,7,6 in Higher Level English, History and Biology. I was also awarded 3rd place in the Woolf Essay Prize run by Newnham College at the University of Cambridge.
I started tutoring in 2020 with Zero Gravity as a volunteer subject mentor for sixth-form students aspiring to read English Language and Literature at university. Since then, I joined Schools Plus as a college representative and volunteer tutor for a local primary school pupil and most recently I have worked as a freelance private tutor to GCSE and Year 7 pupils. I have enhanced my tutoring skills through Cognition Education’s Talent to Teach in Further Education programme and Teach First’s Student Taster Experience, where I deepened my understanding of lesson planning and delivery. Following from this, I am experienced in tailoring tutoring to students' needs in a fun, engaging and ultimately successful way.
