About Jennifer
A little about me
Hello! I’m an experienced primary school teacher with 13 years of experience working with children across the primary age range.
I would describe myself as friendly, approachable, patient and genuinely passionate about helping children learn. I’m someone who believes that learning should be enjoyable and that children make the best progress when they feel comfortable, supported and confident in themselves.
Teaching has always been something I have loved. I really enjoy getting to know children as individuals — finding out what makes them tick, what they enjoy and how they learn best. Every child is different, and I love the challenge of finding the approach that makes learning come alive for them.
Outside of teaching, I’m now a mum to a young child, which has been a wonderful new chapter in my life. Becoming a parent has given me an even greater appreciation of the importance of those early years and the huge role that confidence, encouragement and positive experiences play in a child’s development.
It has also made me appreciate things from a parent’s perspective. I understand how important it is to find someone who is not only experienced and knowledgeable, but who genuinely cares about your child, understands their individual needs and wants them to succeed.
After 13 years in the classroom, I wanted to use my experience in a slightly different way. Private tutoring gives me the opportunity to give children the individual attention that isn’t always possible in a busy classroom. I can slow things down when something feels tricky, spend more time on areas where a child needs support, or provide extra challenge when they are ready to progress further.
I particularly love seeing the change in a child’s confidence. Sometimes the biggest achievement isn’t getting the answer right — it’s seeing a child who once said “I can’t do it” begin to say “Let me have a go.”
That’s what I want my tutoring to be about: helping children feel confident, capable and proud of what they can achieve.
Whether your child needs a little extra support, wants to build their confidence, needs help preparing for an assessment, or simply enjoys learning and wants to be challenged, I will always aim to make our lessons positive, engaging and tailored specifically to them.

My lessons and personal approach
With 13 years of experience as a primary school teacher, I understand that every child learns differently. My approach to tutoring is warm, encouraging and completely tailored to the individual child.
I take the time to get to know each student, understand their strengths and identify the areas where they may need a little extra support. My aim is not simply to help children get the right answers, but to help them understand why and develop the confidence to tackle things independently.
Lessons are relaxed, engaging and age-appropriate, using a mixture of discussion, questioning, practical activities and carefully chosen resources to keep children interested and motivated. I adapt my teaching style to suit the child, whether they need to build confidence, catch up with classroom learning, consolidate their skills or be challenged further.
I can support children across KS1 and KS2, including English, maths, reading, phonics and preparation for SATs. I also offer support for children who are home educated and would benefit from structured, personalised teaching from an experienced primary teacher.
I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable, listened to and successful. I therefore create a positive environment where mistakes are viewed as part of learning and every small achievement is celebrated.
My goal is for every child to finish a lesson thinking, “I can do this!”
