About Craig
Hi, I'm Craig! (or Mr Mitchell!)
I'm an experienced primary school teacher and former Assistant Headteacher, and I've spent many years working with children of different ages, abilities and personalities. I absolutely love seeing that moment when something suddenly clicks for a child — especially when they go from saying *"I can't do this"* to *"I get it!"* That's one of the best parts of teaching for me.
I'm a friendly, patient and enthusiastic teacher, and I try to make my lessons feel very different from simply sitting in a classroom. I believe learning should be enjoyable, and I love finding different ways to explain things until we discover what works best for each individual student.
Outside of teaching, I'm a big fan of travel, exploring new places, good food and coffee, and I'm currently learning Spanish myself! I know from personal experience that learning something new isn't always easy, and sometimes you need someone who can explain things in a different way, encourage you when you're struggling and celebrate the progress you make along the way.
That's exactly the kind of tutor I aim to be.
Whether we're tackling tricky maths problems, improving reading, preparing for SATs or developing writing skills, I'll always aim to make our lessons relaxed, positive and engaging. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and having a go — because that's how we learn.
For me, tutoring isn't just about helping children get better marks. It's about helping them become more confident, independent learners who believe they can succeed.
I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and helping you discover what you're capable of!

I believe that children learn best when they feel comfortable, confident and genuinely supported. My approach is friendly, patient and encouraging, while still providing the structure and challenge children need to make real progress.
As an experienced primary teacher and former Assistant Headteacher, I understand that every child learns differently. Some children need extra help understanding a particular concept, while others may simply need more confidence in their own ability. My lessons are therefore tailored to the individual child, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
I aim to make learning enjoyable and engaging, while helping children develop the skills and confidence they need to become more independent learners. I celebrate progress, however small, and create a positive environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and trying again.
My online lessons are designed specifically for primary-aged children and can support KS1 and KS2 English, Maths, Reading, Phonics, SATs preparation and general catch-up or confidence building.
Before beginning, I take time to understand the child's current ability, strengths, areas for development and what they would like to achieve. I then use this to plan lessons that are focused, purposeful and appropriate for their age and ability.
Lessons are interactive and varied, using questioning, discussion, visual resources, practical activities and carefully chosen challenges to keep children involved. I don't want children simply to sit and listen — I want them to think, participate, explain their ideas and develop confidence in their own learning.
Whether your child needs support catching up, wants to consolidate what they are learning at school, is preparing for SATs, or simply needs an extra confidence boost, I can provide personalised support in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
Most importantly, I want children to finish each lesson feeling that they have achieved something, learned something new and are capable of more than they perhaps thought they were.
I look forward to helping your child enjoy learning, build confidence and reach their potential.
