About Elyse
I'm a dedicated educator with a strong academic foundation and extensive professional experience in research, analysis, and written communication. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in Public Policy, and I've spent over 15 years in professional roles that required clear, persuasive writing and critical thinking every single day.
Throughout my career, I've written policy briefs, research reports, and analytical documents that needed to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences—from colleagues and stakeholders to decision-makers and the public. This real-world experience has given me a deep understanding of what makes writing effective: clarity, structure, evidence-based reasoning, and authentic voice.
As your tutor, I'm committed to creating a judgment-free space where questions are welcome and mistakes are part of learning. I'm reliable, responsive, and genuinely invested in your success. My goal isn't just to help you complete an assignment—it's to equip you with skills and confidence that will serve you well beyond our sessions together.

As a tutor, I believe the best way to become a stronger writer and reader is through practice — real, hands-on work with the material itself. Whether you're crafting an essay, preparing for a standardized test, or working to improve your reading comprehension, we'll tackle challenges together in a practical, supportive environment.
My approach is collaborative and adaptable. I tailor each session to your individual needs, learning style, and goals. We'll work through actual writing assignments, break down complex readings, and practice test strategies using real examples. I focus on building confidence alongside skills, helping you develop your own voice as a writer and critical thinking as a reader.
Sessions are structured around your immediate needs. We might spend time brainstorming and outlining an essay, working paragraph-by-paragraph through a draft, analyzing challenging texts together, or practicing timed writing for test preparation. I provide constructive feedback in real-time and help you develop strategies you can apply independently. Each session ends with clear next steps so you know exactly what to work on between our meetings.
With a B.A. in Political Science, a Master's in Public Policy, and over 15 years of professional experience, I bring real-world writing expertise to our sessions. I've spent my career communicating complex ideas clearly and persuasively and I'm excited to share these skills with students. My fresh perspective as a new tutor means I'm especially attentive to what works for you, without rigid preconceptions about how learning "should" happen.
I work with middle school, high school, and early college students who want to strengthen their English, writing, reading comprehension, and test prep skills. Whether you're struggling with essay structure, preparing for the SAT/ACT, working on college applications, or simply want to become a more confident reader and writer, I'm here to help you reach your goals.
