About JOSE
With over 12 years of experience teaching swimming to students of all ages and abilities, I bring a rare and powerful combination of competitive athletic background, professional coaching expertise and a genuine passion for helping people discover what they are truly capable of in the water.
I hold a nationally recognized Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification, alongside certifications in lifeguarding, child safeguarding and aquatic special needs education. My training has been shaped by years of competitive swimming at regional and national level, giving me a deep, personal understanding of what excellent technique looks and feels like — and exactly how to help others achieve it.
Throughout my career I have taught hundreds of students, from frightened toddlers taking their very first steps into a pool. I believe that swimming is one of the most important life skills a person can develop and my role is to make that journey feel safe, enjoyable and achievable for every student.My method covers the full spectrum of aquatic skill development. Every program incorporates water familiar and floating for complete beginners.A standard 45 to 60 minute lesson follows a carefully structured progression. We begin with a 10 minute water familiarisation and warm up, using gentle movement and breathing exercises to relax the body and prepare the muscles safely. The following 20 minutes focus on targeted technique work based on the student's current level this might involve kick drills with a board, arm stroke isolation or breathing pattern correction using poolside guidance and visual demonstration. We then move into 15 minutes of full stroke practice, applying the techniques learned in a continuous, flowing swim with real time feedback and encouragement. The final 10 minutes are spent on cool down, reflection and goal setting, reviewing what was achieved and outlining the focus for the next session.What distinguishes my teaching is the combination of professional competitive swimming experience and a genuine gift for communication.Lessons are available on a one to one basis or in small groups of up to four students, at your local pool or a facility of your choice. Online video analysis and coaching consultations are also available for those unable to attend in person.
