About Mark
Teaching was not my first career choice!!! However, during my PhD at Bristol University, I tutored veterinary science, medical, dental, physiology and pharmacology students (as well as demonstrating in laboratory practicals). In addition, I was sent out to local schools to inform students about biomedical research. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of communicating my subject to students and so at the end of my PhD I embarked on a PGCE which led me onto 25+ years in the teaching profession.

During lessons, I spend time explaining each topic and follow up with suitable verbal and written (exam style) questions. Lessons are typically 1 hour long.
At the beginning of subsequent lessons students briefly summarise previous lesson material in order to consolidate their knowledge and check understanding.
I like students to ask questions when they are unsure.
I am a semi-retired teacher with 25+ years of GCSE and A-level Biology teaching experience. I have taught in many types of educational institutions (state comprehensives, state selective grammars, independent schools, FE colleges and universities) and have experience of teaching students with a range of learning styles.
I am an experienced sixth form tutor.
I have been an examiner for AQA GCE A-level Biology.
I gained a BSc. at Sheffield University and then a PhD in neurophysiology/neuropharmacology at Bristol University.
I am married with two grown up daughters.
