Seven Stages is one of the best theatre I have ever had the pleasure of working with. It is difficult to write a realistic review without running the risk of sounding overly glowing, but the truth is that Daniel and his team focus on the most important parts of theater. Financial worry and ego are completely left out of the room. Only community, artistry, and expression are allowed in. With Seven Stages, I found a community of artists that were constantly being encouraged to help each other, bring their own individual ideas to the table, and checking in as a team to see where we were as a unit, all while challenging each other to be their best selves along the way. There is a strong emphasis on character development. You will never question who you are and where you are coming from. Dan has a unique way of discovering who the actor is as a person, and allowing the actor to bring themselves to the scene. It is the most honest work I’ve ever done. While most coaches offer their opinions of how you should be better, I always leave working with Dan feeling confident in the choices I made while wanting to implement the ideas he gave during the coaching. Working with Seven Stages will be a growing experience that you will always cherish. I cannot recommend them any more highly!

Dan has a way of talking about Shakespeare that makes it seem so much more approachable, and way less daunting. He takes the time to address your questions, and helps you to figure out the answers rather than just giving you the solution and moving it along. You’re given the tools you need to figure things out on your own. There’s an element of newness in the approach to text, that inspires original concepts in character work and overall storytelling. You really become part of an ensemble when working with Seven Stages, rather than only focusing on one character or storyline.

Dan not only has a masterful and extensive knowledge of Shakespeare and performance -- he makes it feel meaningful in a way that most teachers of both cannot. He's not afraid to make the work meaningful and relevant to the present, and brings joy to students and actors that way. He has both a deep care/reverence for the history/tradition of the text AND a willingness to embrace play/new ideas, ever-remembering that the work lives on its feet and in our bodies, not just on the page. Truly one of the best Shakespeareans I've ever had the pleasure to learn from.

They literally changed the way I think about theatre. They accomplish in one week what other companies never come close to in the worlds of ensemble building, trust and fellowship. Having worked with Seven Stages on multiple different performances has been one of the most positive and fulfilling experience I have had. I have also learned so much about Shakespeare and the art that is performing shakespeare in a modern world and I have also learned an exponential about myself as an actor and artist.
