About David
Playwright and actor, David Stallings has been working in the Theater world for over three decades. David's belief is that each artist must discover their own process that works for them. We each have different impulses and David provides the tools from many different acting techniques so performers can build their own toolbox, learning what works uniquely for them. With a background in Classical training, The Method, Meisner, and Action based techniques, David will help you prepare from both a technical and emotional perspective for your acting journey.
I enjoy the true art of acting. We each have different colors within us that make us unique. And our choices define what we bring to our roles.
I started teaching when members of my NYC based company at the time, MTWorks began to ask me for private coaching. And I soon found that I had an ability to really work with talented performers on digging into their approach to a role and to text.
David began acting professionally at the age of eleven in Summer Stock and graduated with a BFA in acting from the COllege of Santa Fe. David lived for two decades in NYC, serving as an Artistic Director for two different companies, acting professionally throughout and forging a path as a playwrite. David has been seen on stages across the US as well as in international productions.
While he does continual private coaching for professional actors, David has also led Teen Theater Camps through the 14th Street Y in NYC and taught young performers who are beginning their acting journey.

Currently all lessons are over Zoom due to the pandemic. We start with a meeting about background and goals. My hope to to hone in on your individual technique, deep dive into what works or may not from moment to moment and enhance your existing abilities to enrich what already make you unique.
I have worked with all ages from teens just starting out to professional adults who want to prepare for auditions or continue their development.
Come with solid goals. Think about your craft and how you already approach a text and role. Some actors may want to focus on how to process a director's notes, or what preparation they may do for a part. Others may want to work on moment to moment work. Also, think about feedback you have received in auditions or from directors who have worked with you as potential indicators for focussed work.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about where you want to be as a performer and the types of roles you want to play from an artistic perspective. Don't worry about "typing" yourself, the industry will do that for you. Think aboutwhat fullfills you artistically so we can work on the artform.
The art and the bussiness must work hand in hand, but in acting training, think about your artist self first.

It's very simple. I would not be an actor today if it wasn't for David Stallings' coaching, and I definitely would have not tackled Shakespeare. Thanks to their coaching I was cast in two lead Shakespeare roles in New York City: Oberon and Macbeth. They have also been invaluable when it comes to my contemporary work, and what I like about their style the most is that it is specific, compassionate, and always focused on making positive choices whenever possible. They understand that mood is the enemy of great acting! I panic if I have an audition and they are not available. As an immigrant actor with English as my second language, their patience with my pronunciation and enunciation does not go unnoticed. They are also LGBTQIA+ friendly which for me is of utmost importance in a coach as it allows me to be vulnerable with the material. Highly highly recommend.

Details
Current classes are online through Zoom. Sessions are 1 hour in length with a six lesson minimum for booking.
Sessions are $60 per hour.
