About Pam
I became an artist at age four, when I decided to create my own version of a paint-by-number image. I have been "painting" outside the box ever since.
Earning a BFA in Graphic Design, from Moore College of Art and Design in 1979, I began working in the advertising business. I later became a mother and found my stride as a stay-at-home mom of four children for the better part of 20 years, while continuing freelance graphic design work.
My life-long passion for visual art led to creative endeavors within the home through sewing and needlework, cooking, gardening, customized home renovations and Jazzercise. I became a Jazzercise instructor and franchisee in 1986. It was through Jazzercise that I fell in love with teaching! I then began a course of study for a teacher certification in art education.
In 1995, I became certified in art education from Kutztown University and began teaching in the public school system. My experience in the classroom eventually led to graduate studies at the University of Florida. My interest in Community-based Art Education as a way for students to make sense of their world and grow into caring and responsible community members became my graduate research. I have taught several methods classes to pre-service elementary teachers that introduced art integration into the elementary classroom.
Earning an MA in Art Education, with a graduate minor in Non-profit Organizations in 2004, I continued as an adjunct until securing a teaching position at Vanguard High School in Ocala, FL, in 2005. While at VHS, I developed a digital design program and boosted the struggling commercial art curriculum. It was very successful until the administrative focus changed from my holistic teaching approach to students passing the Adobe professional certification exams.
After a short time as an administrative assistant with the Florida Energy Systems Consortium on UF campus I began teaching art again in an elementary school setting in Gainesville, FL. Currently, I have been teaching art education part time for the past three years, (including IB Art) at Eastside high School in Gainesville, FL.
