About Kevin
Kevin Mitchell Basketball offers a player development program and model to help aspiring basketball players become more successful in game situations. Basketball has two elements, "skill", and, strategy. Basketball players must have the ability to connect practical basketball skills to game situations by strategically addressing their deficiencies. There is a synergy between improving basketball skill to augment player development. Typically, a basketball player's challenge is addressing the "fear" because of the lack of game speed repetitions, and, game-like scenarios.
The philosophy behind our player development strategy is to provide basketball skills which will lead to long term success. Our strategic curriculum will help each basketball player improve the speed of execution, decision making, and, accuracy of in-game performance. Basketball players must have the ability to connect practical basketball skills by becoming proficient with the simple skills before transitioning to the more complex skills. Each basketball player has different learning styles:
Visual Learner - Prefers to see information, and, visualize the relationships between ideas.
Auditory Learner - Prefers to hear information vs. reading it or seeing it displayed visually.
Reading / Writing Learner - Prefers interacting through text vs. hearing or seeing images.
Kinesthetic Learner - Prefers "hands on", and, learns best by doing.
By building "moments of teaching" into our player development model, our goal is to help aspiring basketball players transition practice to game play, and, progressively build their game year by year.
Each phase of player development can lead to stagnation or opportunity based on the following challenges as the result of an action:
Denial - the action of declaring the need of player development to be untrue.
Resistance - the action of opposing the need or opportunity for player development.
Exploration - the action of investigating, researching, studying or analyzing the need for player development.
Acceptance - the action of recognizing, and, agreeing to the need for player development.
Progression - the action of connecting a series of practical skills for player development.
Confidence - the action of belief or trust in the one's ability to execute a skill as a result of player development.
The process of building a basketball player, and, seeing the transition into a functional basketball player during competition.
I have worked with aspiring basketball players from the youth level to the NBA level.
