About Russell
I started training in boxing and Muay Thai and after about a year, I was asked to start coaching. I currently am the sparring coach at my gym as well as coaching the other classes from time to time.
I have been training for 6 years in Boxing and Muay Thai. When I first started training, I weighed 225lbs and was unhealthy not very confident and had a rough start with boxing, but with persevereance and hard work, I ended up shedding a lot of weight, vastly increasing my cardio capacity, and winning fights. I spent 3 months in Thailand to train and learn Muay Thai from the source. I have been coaching for 4 years at an MMA gym, primarily as a boxing and Muay Thai coach.

I like to talk to students about their goals and what they personally want to get out of training sessions. I will also evaluate their skill level, whether we need to start with the basics or want more advanced training. At this time, we will also talk about times and days that work for us.
I have worked with students from all different levels and walks of life. Being the sparring coach at my gym has afforded me the opportunity to work with beginners, intermediates, and advanced fighters and be a part of their growth. I sometimes coach the kids' boxing class at the gym as well as the adult boxing and Muay Thai.
Know what your goals are. If you are a beginner, I would look for someone who is willing to go through the basics with you rather than starting with advanced technical striking. A big part of boxing and Muay Thai is having good cardio so find someone who will push you but also work with your skill level.
