About Matt

I've been a private tutor for about a year and a teaching assistant/recitation leader for organic chemistry also for a year in the Oxford, MS, area. I'm one semester away from a degree in Biochemistry and Biology with a GPA of 3.94, so I feel qualified to tutor up to the college level in the sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry, & Biology). I have also worked in a chemistry lab for nearly 2 years which has helped me to understand broader applications of these core science concepts. Working there gave me the opportunity to receive the American Chemical Society's Outstanding Medicinal Chemistry Student Researcher Award. I love teaching!
I've always loved teaching and being a teaching assistant for organic chemistry exposed me to mentoring students with very high capabilities as well as those who struggle in my field.
Nearly complete with a B.A. in biochemistry with biology minor. I've had at least 2 years of direct student-to-student mentoring, tutoring, and teaching experience.

I like to get to know where you are on the subject and what your style of learning is--everyone learns differently and understanding that is key to breaking through tough material.
I feel prepared to work with both those with high capabilities and those who struggle in my field. Struggling with chemistry doesn't make you dumb or unable, sometimes it's not the right subject or the right teacher for that student and finding ways to work around those obstacles is my priority for students who struggle in my field.
Everyone learns differently. You can't expect a high school or even college teacher/professor to cater to your needs or even be able to teach in a way that is conducive to your learning, therefore a tutor can work more personally with you and your learning style.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Being "lost" in a subject usually comes as a result of a few factors that play into your learning process (like not caring about the information, not devoting the time to study, etc.). Therefore, identifying those factors before approaching a teacher or tutor will streamline the process of overcoming hurdles and getting "un-lost".

Matt tutored me for Organic and was able to find ways to make it finally click and start making sense. He could always find time in his schedule to help and is definitely the main reason I made it through that class!
Not only was Matt very knowledgeable about organic chemistry but he explained each concept very thoroughly and took his time teaching the material until I was comfortable with the problems.
