About Sadie
Hello all! My name is Sadie Santos. I am the founder and artist of Sweet Pea Paintings Co. I graduated from Columbus State University with Bachelor's in Art Education. I am a painter, prodominatly a Watercolorist, though I do paint in acrylics as well. I specialize in detail work, both large (up to 36"x48") and small (the size of a quarter). I paint anything, from portraits to landscapes, food to animals, florals to architecture, anything! My work is predominately focused on my travels. I grew up a military brat, having lived in four countries and visited an additional twenty-four. I recently returned from teaching in South Korea, my recent work is reflective of that experience. If you are looking for a painting instructor, I am a certified educator and artist with a passion for teaching. You do not need any experience. I love beginners! If you have some experience and need to brush up on technique, I can certainly assist. Allow me the privilege to share my knowledge and passion with you.
The two things I love to do most in life are paint and travel. For me, these two things go hand in hand. I travel and paint my experiences, capturing some of my favorite and most cherished memories in my own way. At a young age, I realized art is powerful. Art can make people happy, it can start change, it can bring much needed attention to hard subjects, and it can heal. I enjoy being an artist because my practice relaxes me and makes me happy. I enjoy being an art educator because I can teach my students how to express themselves. Everyone has an undeniably unique outlook on life. We all have different experiences. I love that I get to help my students learn how to tell their stories visually.
I graduated from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia in 2017 with my Bachelor's in Art Education. I have trained rigorously in many media with a multitude of artists.

I like to ask my new students a few questions about their skill level and desire to learn.
1. Would you consider yourself a A) beginner B) intermediate or C) advanced student?
2. What are your goals in learning this artform?
3. What three artists do you admire most?
After getting to know a bit about my student and their skills and desires, I'll lay out a few options for a first lesson. These will vary for each student. We can look through them together (I'll have a binder with some options!) I'll allow the student to choose. We can deviate from the lesson as art is about feeling.
I have worked with various types of students. I've taught students with absolutely zero art experience. I've been told on countless occassions, "I can't even draw a stick figure." To this I say, "Oh yes you can." Does talent play a role in art? Sure, it can. Does it have to? No. Art can be very scientific. Combine some science with emotion and I guarantee you can be an artist in one form or another. I teach my students similarly to how I was taught. We start with the basics, drawing and shading. We can practice still life, gesture drawing, drawing from life, and portraits using measurements or just your eye! However, I know not everyone wants to start from scratch, some of my students wanted to take lessons from me to achieve something very specific. We can do that too. I am here to help you reach your goals. Let's create!
My area of expertise is in painting. I consider myself a Watercolorist prodominately. I have my own niche I fall into. I am quite versitile but I will not say I can fit everyone's needs. For example, if you are looking for an instructor who specializes in oil paints, unfortunately, that is probably not me. If I knew a student was looking for a painting instructor, I would ask them:
1. What kind(s) of paint(s) are you interested in mastering?
2. What style of painting are you interested in pursuing?
If I feel I would be a good match, I will offer my services. If I am not, I will try to recommend them to someone who is the perfect match!

I charge $30 an hour, plus the cost of materials. I am available for two hours every weekday, minus the holidays.
