About Bret
As an Oil Painter, digital artist and Illustrator I am passionate about art expressing something beyond the medium, something deeply personal. Every artist or artist in the making has that something within them and sometimes they just need someone to cultivate them to get it out. For me I was always fascinated with anthropology, world religions, fantasy, and social issues and so discovering my voice was not a matter of figuring out what medium flowed with me best but it was a process of discovering how I could express my interests, thoughts, and feelings through any medium. The technique will be a tool to get you there and I have a lot to teach on that, but the most important element is the purpose and the passion, that is what is going to get you to pick up the pencil or the brush again and again. My goal is to educate students in fundamentals such as color theory, perspective, light & shadow, anatomy, and symbolism to expand on the students arsenal of imagery to draw from in order to communicate through their artwork. It is my joy to give to the student personalized teaching and encouragment to see the love of art grow in the world!
I love being able to express thoughts and ideas through art and visual symbolism, it brings more meaning into my life to contemplate philosophy and ways to visualize concepts.
I started teaching by teaching my friend Anthony how to Oil paint, I then worked at a Learning center where I taught art for over a year and a half. I started taking students of my own for private lessons after that.
I have been drawing ever since my early childhood and I recieved an associates degree in Graphic Design. After recieving my associates degree I attended the Joe Kubert school for Comic and Cartoon Illustration for a year where I studied classical and modern art methods in the Graphic arts & illustration fields. I learned directly from such industry professionals as Tom Mandrake, Kim Demulder, and Fernando Ruiz to name a few.

I want to see what the student has done so far so I will ask to see their work. Primarily I would like to get an idea of the students interests and inspirations in order to have a clearer idea of where they want to be lead. From that point I will assess what it is that they need to concentrate on and then come up with a personalized work plan for growth. If you have no experience then starting with the essentials of drawing are the best place to start for most people.
I have worked with students of all ages and all skill levels. If you have 0 experience or if you are skilled I am confident I can help you improve your abilities.

Details
$30 hourly, I book time based on my students availability, we can do a lesson for as long as you need to develop. For the best growth I think a student should work with me atleast once a week
