About Julie
As an artist, I have been teaching drawing and painting to people of all ages for more than twenty years. With experience in academic settings (college, art school, university), community art (kids, at risk youth, elders, continuing ed), and expressive arts (kids and adults) - I have the skill, experience, and interest to facilitate each student's creative growth.
As a meditation instructor, I have worked with adults, kids, and teens, in retreat, group, and individual settings. My own practice background is in Vipassana, Zen, and Mahamudra/Dzogchen. I teach in a contemplative/creative way, combining foundations of meditation with inquiry into students' specific concerns and curiosities.

I love creating, and helping students find their creative voice. Working with a wide variety of materials in my own work, I love exposing students to new possibilities for tools and surfaces - and wonder in the everyday.
I believe that creative work and contemplative work are two faces of the same basic impulse: to live deeply, to observe keenly, to be curious about our human lives.
I have a BA in Studio Art from Yale (1994) and an MFA in Drawing/Painting/Printmaking from Georgia State University (2003).
I have been practicing meditation seriously since 1995, and teaching for the past 7 years.
I will be graduating in September 2018 with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Goddard College, specializing in Expressive Arts Therapy.
