About Jeremy
With over 20 years teaching and playing experience, I believe, first and foremost, that drum lessons should be FUN! I provide a supporting and nurturing environment where you the student can work towards unlocking your musical potential without fear of intimidation or judgment. My very first drum teacher was the OPPOSITE of nurturing, so I've made it my life's goal to treat each and every student with love and compassion.
I LOVE sharing the joy of music. For me, drumming is a kind of meditation, a sanctuary from the chaos of the world and its myriad obligations. I am never happier than when one of my students discovers how to tap into that sanctuary, either by learning a new rudiment, beat, or song. It's the best feeling in the world.
My first teaching gig was at George's Music in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania. I LOVED it. A musician friend from college helped me get the job, and from there it was full speed ahead. Over the years, I've helped over 75 students experience the magic of drumming. I've taught in institutions, students' homes, and my own home.
I've been drumming for over 25 years and I'm STILL obsessed! I've played in all sorts of bands--rock, folk, jam, reggae, jazz, Irish-rock--in venues ranging from small corner pubs to large festival stages and arenas. I spent the last 4 years playing full-time in Key West, Florida, averaging over 300 shows per year. I studied jazz improvisation at Pennsylvania's Bucks College. When I'm not home practicing, you can find me at one of Chicago's many awesome venues, checking out new drummers. I LOVE learning new grooves, fills, songs, and playing with new bands. Drumming for me is a way of life, a sanctuary from the chaos of the world and its myriad obligations.

You will help create your own unique lesson path and structure, selecting books, songs, genres, and learning methods that work best for YOU. A typical lesson involves listening, playing, notation-reading, discussion, basic drills, and more. Together we'll work to achieve YOUR goals, be that playing professionally, joining a band, or simply learning a few of your favorite tunes. Most of all, we'll work toward tapping into the joy, ecstasy, and FUN, that only music can provide!
All kinds! Young, old, and everything in between. I work mainly with beginner and intermediate students, but am happy to lend my experience to advanced students as well. I've worked with special needs students, includging those with autism. Bottom line: If you want to learn drums, give me a shout!
Find someone who lets you be you. Learning how to play the drum-set (or any instrument) can feel intimidating or even overwhelming. But it doesn't have to. Even the most basic lesson can occasion powerful feelings of confidence and joy. The key is remembering that learning is a GAME. There is no right or wrong way to learn; just as there is no right or wrong pace at which to learn. It's all about having FUN, and finding a teacher who will help you in that endeavor.
I recently learned that one of my former students is now teaching full-time! The fact that someone I helped discoer the joys of music is now himself spreading that same joy is a huge honor!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Know what you want to get out of your lesson and/or teacher. Do you want to learn a favorite song? Or join a band? Do you want help with a song from school? Or do you just want to rock out in the privacy of your home? Knowing EXACTLY what you want will help you get the most out of each and every lesson. Likewise, knowing what kind of teacher you want, will help you find the right fit. Don't be afraid to ask your teacher hard questions before signing up: that's what we're here for!

Our 7-year-old son has had a blast taking lessons with Jeremy. He is patient and makes sure the lessons are engaging and fun. He asks on Day 1 what type of music our son likes so that he could be sure to incorporate it. We highly recommend Jeremy!

Details
In-home lessons are $60 an hour, $35 a half hour. Online lessons are $50 an hour, and $25 for a half hour.
*Throughout the course of the Corona virus outbreak, I will be leaning heavily on online courses.
