About Stacey
As an experienced reading specialist and special education professional with over 20 years of expertise, I understand the challenges that struggling readers in grades K to 5 face. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to closing the achievement gap for these students, helping them develop the necessary skills to become confident readers.
I recognize that each child has their own unique strengths and weaknesses when it comes to reading. By conducting thorough assessments, I can identify areas that require additional attention and tailor my approach to meet each student's specific needs. Whether it's phonics, comprehension, or fluency, I have a proven track record of implementing effective strategies to address these challenges head-on.
My goal as a reading tutor is not only to improve a child's reading ability but also to ignite their love for learning. By fostering a supportive and engaging environment, I encourage students to become active participants in their own learning journey. Through personalized instruction, I ensure that they develop the confidence and skills necessary to succeed academically and beyond.
With my extensive experience in special education and my dedication to closing the achievement gap, I am confident in my ability to make a significant impact on your child's reading abilities. By working together, we can create a solid foundation for their future academic success, empowering them to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
While employed as an A & R Executive, I began to volunteer in the elementary school I attended as a child. I quickly fell in love with transforming kids lives and making a true impact. I began to see how great the need was for educators who truly cared. This was a dramatic life change for myself as well as my children in every aspect.
I began as a Teacher's Assistant and needed to return to school for my degree and then take the exams to get my certifications. I took part of a program that guaranteed me a position in the school system as I worked toward my certifications.
During this time I was able to help many struggling students and their families. I began to thrive more in my new love. At the same time as this passion grew I began to realize that their were still so many more students suffering academically and emotionally that I was not able to reach. I could not reach them due to class sizes growing, the intense need of some of my students and feeling overwhelmed by admins demands for administrative duties. I began offering afterschool support to my students. I also began conducting research on closing the reading gap.
The understanding I gained gave me courage, strength and a desire to support students in other areas. This is how I began offering tutoring to other students through different agencies. I conducted private tutoring online and in person beginning in 2010. After some time I departed 100% from the school system and became a full time private tutor.
I relocated to Charlotte and learned that same intense need exists in Charlotte as well. After the pandemic hit I returned to providing online tutoring services 100%. In 2021, I separated from the NC school system. I love what I do because I am able to make a great impact with each child on their journey to skilled reading!
For the past 20 years, I have acquired a wealth of education and training related to my professional career in Education. I have listed the training and education that I believe is key at this time. I am always learning so that I can stay abreast of the best opportunities for the students I service to continually bring about personalized learning.

I have worked with students at all levels but took a special focus on Pre-K to 5th grade students who struggle with reading. As I worked more with these students I learned to look through their lenses. This gives me new opportunities to generate new ways to help their little brains grow.
While I would address the level of experience, education, etc I would focus more on a tutor who connects with my child; someone who has patience and can provide a true solution to my child's need . I would make sure the person truly has my child's best interest at heart and will not feed off of the need of my child or my intense desire to have an answer to the problem at hand.
One event I am most fond of is a 4 year old student I was working with that was diagnosed with Autism; He was not able to talk at all and struggled academically; The request of mom was simple "I just want to hear him say momma"
I worked really, really hard with this student and utilized multiple creative strategies. After seeing him for 8 weeks we made some progress. In one of our sessions, mom walked past and went into her bedroom. The student called out "momma" "momma!"
The mom ran over and hugged him so hard as she cried. She then hugged me so hard as she thanked me. He began to speak more and more. He was able to enter kindergarten needing resource services for speech rather than placement in a special education classroom full time. I spoke with his mom recently and learned that he is 100% in a general education classroom. Though I have not worked with this student in years, his parents said that I made there dreams come true.
These small tokens of appreciation make it all worthwhile
