About Dr Anthony

I am a college professor at St. John's University in Queens, NY. I have previous experience educating undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Florida and at Syracuse University, where I earned my Ph.D. in entertainment marketing and master's in communications, respectively. I am also a consultant, and have previous experience conducting market research for entertainment companies. I have previously taught classes in public speaking, business communications, history of media, and also have over eight years of private tutoring experience in subject areas including history, economics, political science, and English.

I am able to conduct meaningful research, earn publications, and share these experiences with students. From this, as I learn, so do my students.

Aiding students in reaching their goals is a wonderful and intimate experience. I'm able to use key performance indicators and truly see my impact on a student.

I have a passion for teaching, conducting academic research, and providing industry consultation.  I have been able to engage in all three facets, which have been terribly rewarding for my own career.  I began tutoring as a requirement for induction into National Honors Society during high school some thirteen years ago, and I fell in love with it.  It allowed me to build intimate bonds with students and track my progress with them.  I am personally prideful of helping to get five past students into their top choices for college.

I have a Ph.D. in entertainment marketing from the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, and I have a M.A. in television, radio, and film from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications from Syracuse University.  My B.A. is in history and political science (minor economics) from Manhattanville College.  I have previous industry work experience working at corporate and entertainment law firms as well as for Nieslen and Ipsos, and conducting marketing research for HBO, CNN, NBC, Bravo, and Facebook.  Currently, I am a college professor at CUNY La Guardia in Queens, NY, where I currently teach classes in business communication, public speaking, and entertainment marketing.  I also have over eight years of private tutoring experience in subject areas including economics, English, history, and political science.  Through all of these experiences, this has allowed me to help high school students sift through subject material, work with them on college applications, and help them gain a solid footing for their future endeavors.

When I first work with a student, I try to gain an overview surrounding what he or she is struggling with.  I dig deep to understand studying habits, passion for the material, and future goals.  Together, this helps me focus on what the student likely needs.  I am also cognizant of trying to make material digestable for students in a fun and interactive matter.  My tutoring sessions often involve a conversation between myself and the student, as interactive learning is way more beneficial for students.

I have primarily worked with high school students, undergraduate students, and graduate students.  I have also worked with students with ADHD, and who have immigrated from other countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America.

I think aside from experience, you need to be sure that you have chemistry with the tutor, and that you can trust the tutor to be knowledgeable in your desired subject area(s). You're going to be working with the tutor a lot, and you want to be sure that you connect with him/her.

Studying with a tutor should be a fun experience!  I can't imagine having a boring or dull tutor, and neither should you!

Moreover, the tutor absolutely has to be on time!  Your time is precious.

I am always fond of watching college basketball and college football games.  I am an ardent supporter of Syracuse Orange and Florida Gator sports teams, and have been really happy with both teams during the current college basketball season!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think students should ask teachers about their previous experience tutoring in subject areas, clear examples of their success with other students, and how they became tutors.  Understanding the personal investment tutors are interested in making in students is paramount in proper evaluation of a tutor.
