About Corrina

I believe that all learning should be child-centered, and I always try to form meaningful connections with my students. I believe this is important for the engagement of both the teacher and the students in a tutoring session. As a special education teacher, I also have experience and education in teaching many different students, and I can adapt lessons to each student's individual interests and needs.

I am also willing to be in frequent communication with parents and teachers as this allows everyone to have a better understanding of a student's progress.

Teaching and working with children is my passion and I truly enjoy going to work everyday. I am currently teaching full time as a preschool teacher and I love working with young children. However, I miss teaching reading and writing skills as literacy is one of my major interests. Therefore, I enjoy tutoring struggling readers and writers outside of work.

I am also passionate about tutoring because I believe that all children can learn and succeed, but some benefit from teaching methods that that may be different than those presented in the classroom setting.

I received my Masters in Early Childhood General and Special Education from Bank Street School of Education, and am in the process of receiving my Teacher Certifcation. I have taught in general, special ed, and inclusion settings and have taught preschool, kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.

My passion is teaching literacy skills, and I have worked with many beginning and struggling readers as a tutor, teacher, and Literacy Specialist. I have also been trained in different literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham and Sounds in Motion.

About the lesson

I am passionate about tutoring because I believe that all children can learn and succeed, but some benefit from teaching methods that that may be different than those presented in the classroom setting. As a teacher with special education training, I believe that students learn best when their interests and strengths are used to help them understand the content. I always begin a relationship with a new student by learning about them and making a connection, which I believe is essential to understanding their approach to learning. I also believe that it is important to use a variety of methods to help students learn and I use a multisensory approach, which means I believe students should learn using multiple senses (including vision, hearing, movement, and touch). I try to make learning engaging and fun for young children by using games and other hands-on activities.

I am an early childhood educator (General and Special Ed) and currently teach Pre-K. In the past I have tutored students from Kindergarten through high school, but I am currently interested in working with children ages 5-10.

I have worked with students of various backgrounds including those with phonemic awareness issues, speech and language disorders, visual and auditory processing disorders, learning disorders (including dyslexia), and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
