About Katie

Having studied Psychology for the entirety of my undergraduate career, I have been given the unique opportunity to learn more about the minds of children like you than I ever thought possible. Some of what I have learned includes: how children think and learn, what motivates students to learn, how emotional well-being, interpersonal relationships, and social context promote or hinder learning, and how I can guide my students to become more cognizant directors of their learning. In my honest opinion, this skillset alone is a great foundation for what will be a long journey of learning how to help others learn. I first learned about the science of exactly how students learn, and learning the content second was an interesting order but I think it sets me apart.

The more you know, the more you grow.

Typically we will have an introduction session, that you would not be charged for, so that I can see what your needs and goals are, and develop a plan to reach those goals. After a plan is in place, we will put it in motion and meet as frequently as you need.

Students that I have worked with range from the age of 3-years-old to 12-years-old, having covered grades Pre-K through sixth grade. I have worked in a number of different classroom settings, including with English Language Learners (ELLs), self-contained classrooms for students with special needs, general education classrooms, and Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classes.

A piece of advice: find a tutor who you can connect with in order to establish trust. We learn best when our fundamental needs are being addressed, and one of those needs is feeling safe. If you do not feel a sense of security and trust with your tutor, you will not be able to advance to the levels of learning that you came here for.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In order for a teacher to successfully address your needs, you need to have a clear picture of the needs that you have and the goals that you have.
