About Zachary
Welcome! I'm passionate about grammar, writing, and foreign languages, and I'd love to share my expertise with you or your child. The best way to learn a language is to use it in natural contexts. Games, conversations, puzzles, and role playing activities are staples of my teaching, but I also enjoy talking about grammatical and syntactical structures from a more theoretical angle with advanced students
In addition to having tutored Latin and Swedish for eight years, I have taught three literature and composition classes and eight Swedish languages classes at U.C. Berkeley. I'm beginning a job as a middle school Latin teacher in August of 2019.
There's no greater reward than helping a student succeed with a difficult topic!
What I believe about teaching
Learning is practice. Anyone can learn the fundamentals of any subject with enough hard work, guidance, and an attentive teacher.
I'm passionate about the subjects I teach, so I devote significant time to planning lessons and reflecting on how I can best help my students enjoy and master the same things that I love.

I suggest a commitment of ten hours over four months for students who want to achieve higher results on the verbal portions of standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, or MCAT. Students who commit to a preset curriculum of 10 one-hour lessons will receive all of the following:
· Weekly homework assignments.
· Occasional pop quizzes.
· Weekly handouts on topics like Latin and Greek prefixes and suffixes, parts of speech, grammar rules, and common idioms.
· Tips and strategies on how to approach the verbal sections of standardized tests.
Weekly lessons include:
· Discussing any mistakes graded homework from the previous week.
· Hot-seat questions on vocabulary, grammar, prefixes and suffixes.
· Playing a verbal reasoning game.
· A lecture on an important concept or topic.
· A summary of where we've been
· Strategies to get were where going.
The Teen Week Curriculum is $500 for individual students and $425 per person for small groups of students (a maximum of four students in a group).
Week-by-week lessons are $60 per hour for individual students and $40 per person for small groups of students (a maximum of four individuals in a group). Week-by-week students will not receive the overarching curriculum of the Ten Week option, its quizzes and some of its hand outs. An individualized learning plan with tailored homework, quizzes, and handouts would be an additional $10 per hour ($70/$50).
