About James

Well-educated in a variety of subjects, I love to learn and I love to teach. After over a dozen years of writing, designing games, making movies and music I am ready to share that knowledge with the world and let others experience the joy I have discovered in these and other fields.

I have owned and run 2 of my own companies and know what it means to break things down into component parts so that they are easily digestible to those who wish to learn.

I am a voracious reader (and hope to make you one as well) in a variety of fictional and non-fictional subjects. I have 7 years as a professional proofreader and have written and published 28 (soon to be 29) books and/or games.

History is my secret passion, whether I find it in a book, a movie or a museum (or better yet, the actual site!) I can never get enough. I have travelled extensively in the USA and in Europe, Canada and Mexico as well, soaking in the history and culture of anywhere I visit.

Previous experience includes the teaching of writing, design and publishing in both public and private venues. I have done seminars at a variety of conventions over the last 12 years including Owlcon, Spacecity Con, Comicpalooza, Apollocon, Game Theory Expo and others.

I believe learning should be inclusive of more than just names and dates (especially in History) or even raw data. Knowledge should be absorbed and imparted from a variety of sources such as books, movies, games, comics, concerts, documentaries and personal experiences such as visiting sites and conversations with other industry professionals. I like to include these methodologies in my curriculum wherever possible. Putting meaning behind the facts is of utmost importance and contributes greatly to one's overall understanding of the subject.
