About LaVon

By teaching students real world writing skills and tools they can use today, and transfer their writing abilities from social, academic, and future professional careers.

I have been teaching college composition, and technical writing for 6 years and high school language Arts for 7 years. Teaching others to find their voice in writing and how to write has been a passion of mine for 20 years. I started teaching ages 4 through 6 how to read 20 years ago, from there my desire to teach older ages came as I gained a bachelors degree in English, and then a master's in English. Teaching how to write, how to think critically about information you read, data you gather, analyze, and then discuss came did not come naturally to me. I struggled to express what I could see in my mind, but could not translate that into written word. It was through my own difficulty in writing and finding ways to overcome those writing blocks, I discovered that I had an ability to see how I could teach others to also achieve their academic and professional goals.

Seeing the students I have worked with succeed. That is the greatest joy I get out of my work.

About the lesson

First, I like to get to know my student as a person, and then ask questions on how they view themselves as writers and how they like to learn. From there I want to know what they feel they struggle with and what goals they want to achieve. Next I assess their abilities and then together we make a plan on what they want to learn qnd areas I see they need strength.

Details

25.00 dollars an hour is my standard price for hourly lessons; however, editing papers and like can vary. You should contact me to discuss your needs and how I can help you and what the total price will be. I can assure you that my prices are fair and often are lower than normal, simple because I know not everyone can afford expensive tutoring or editing. What I see in being charged for tutoring is wrong. I want to change that and make learning how to learn, read, study, and write affordable to everyone.
