About Sharon
I have been a high school teacher for the last ten years. I am qualified to teach many subjects but have found that my passion is in writing and in the history of The United States. I have a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and I am state certified as a special inclusion specialist. I have taught English one and English two in summer school for the last 7 years and I have a high pass rate for all my students taking the Texas EOC yearly test. I enjoy working with high school students and showing them that writing an essay can be enjoyable and that it does not have to be a miserable experience. I would love the chance to work with students from all over the world to help them with improving their writing.
I went back to college in my late 30's and completed my degree after raising my two boys by myself. While attending college I worked as a substitute on days when I could. The high school principals offered a full time job after one year of subbing and that is how I began teaching. I went back after graduating college and did alternative certification to obtain my teaching certificate. I've never looked back. Best decision of my life.
I'm a certified teacher with 10 years of experience at the high school level. I have a bachelors degree in criminal justice from East Tx Baptist University. I have a special education certification as well and have been in class as a co-teacher for US History for the past several years as well as teaching Criminal Justice in our CTE program. I have taught English in summer school for the past 7 years with great success from my students on passing the Texas EOC tests. I tutor all during the year for the following subject as well. US History, biology, all high school English, Government, and economics.
I have worked with junior and seniors for the last 10 years applying for college to include helping the families with applying for FAfSA.

Getting to know each other is the very first thing. I'm very easy to talk to and make friends fast. I like to know what the person likes or does not like. If people can relate to one another it makes it easier to know how they learn or what is the best way to modify instructions for them.
I have worked with all types of students, from gifted and talented to life skills and all those in between.
Everyone needs to feel comfortable with whomever they are working with. You need to meet with your tutor and talk with them, interview them to make sure you can work with together. I can't imagine spending an hour with someone that I could not connect with.
This year I was honored to be given the first ever award from our athletic department. They called it, "The Going Beyond the Call of Duty". I work with all the student athletes after and before school on all their work from other classes to make sure no one failed and would be unable to participate in sports. I have been recognized as teacher of the month several times and I am known as the momma to many of the kids whether I had them in my class or just through school activities. I have been the sponsor of our Key Club for the last 5 years growing our group from 34 to 179 this year.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Most students know what they like and don't like about any subject. With that being said, be honest and tell the tutor what you like about the subject or what you need help on. Don't be afraid to ask any question. I have heard my whole life that "no question is stupid they all are important!" Well it's true! 😊 I'm a great listener and I love to work through problems.
