About Mike

Working as a team to help students achieve their goals. Identifying their strengths and experiences that will help them improve their golf game. Empowering them with simplicity to adjust their golf game while practicing or playing.

I enjoy helping people succeed and achieve their golf goals. I enjoy meeting people and hearing about their experiences in life and golf. Helping students learn how to learn and how to keep things simple to achieve their golf goals. I enjoy the game of golf with over 43 years of playing experience, 35 years in Golf Operations and 25 years of teaching experience with all skill levels an aspirations.

I started teaching at the Avila Beach Golf Resort in 1996 with Tom Stankowski, PGA, Billy Gibbs, PGA, Steve Wolff, PGA and Gary Setting, PGA with the Central Coast Golf Academy.  In 1998 we created the Avila Beach Golf Academy and in 2002 we created the Golf C.A.R.E. Golf Monthly Golf Clinic program at the Avila Beach and Blacklake Golf Resorts.  This program offered over 60 golf clinics a month between the two golf courses offered by 7 PGA Professionals on staff.  In 2004 I started working with the First Tee Junior Golf & Life Skills program and became a Certified First Tee Coach in 2014.  In 2012 I became the Director of Golf at the Paso Robles Golf Club and led the golf instruction programs including club fitting.  In 2021 I opened the MB Golf Academy based out of Paso Robles, Ca. and San Luis Obispo County.

I have worked in the golf industry for over 35 years.  I begain playing golf at the age of 9 and have over 42 years of playing experience.  I completed the PGA PGM program in 2004 to earn my PGA Club Professional status.  Helped create and worked with the Central Coast Golf Academy and the Avila Beach Golf Resort Golf Academy. I have worked with the First Tee Junior Golf & Life Skills program since 2004.  I am a certified First Tee Lead Coach with the Central Coast Chapter.  In 2021 I created the MB Golf Academy and teach at several golf courses in the San Luis Obispo County/Paso Robles, California area.

We identify the goals of each student from the very beginning with the introductory interview.  We develop goals and a game plan to help achieve them as a team.

Every golfer has their swing style based on their build, their flexibility, and past athletic experience.  We focus on these areas to create a solid foundation that each golfer can build on and repeat, whether on the driving range or the golf course.  Each golf lesson includes a follow-up email summary of what we covered during the session.

We utilize Flightscope Mevo+ for clubhead speed, smash factor, carry distance in yards, launch angle and video analysis during golf lessons and club fittings.

We look forward to working with you to make your golfing goals a reality!

I have worked with men, women, juniors, physically disabled and the Wounded Warriors.  I work with all skill levels from beginners, intermediate and advanced players recreational and tournament players.

My advice is book one golf lesson with the instructor.  Have a goal or goals in mind.  See what questions they ask about you.  Do they teach just one way to swing the golf club?  Are they going to make you swing like them? Do they listen to you during the golf lesson?  Do you connect with them?  Do they have your best interest at heart?

A recent student named Jeff was struggling with his new Callaway driver.  We scheduled an golf lesson appointment on a real driving range in the Paso Robles, Ca. area to utilize the Flightscope Mevo+ and iPad video technology the week before his big annual golf tournament.

After one golf lesson discussing his pre-shot routine, looking at the Flightscope Mevo+ numbers and utilizing the videos of his swings during the lesson we were able to increase his driver swing speed by an average of 15 mph and he gained an average of 30-37 yards of carry.  Watching him succeed during the golf lesson and later after the golf tournament was so satisfying and the reason that I love to coach/teach the great game of golf.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why am I taking golf lessons?  What are my expectations of myself?  How much time do I have to practice?  What is my first goal?  What is the end goal?  What golf equipment do I need?  How much do I really have to invest in time and money to reach my goal(s)?
