I have known David Lester for 15 years, and have studied string bass with him over the last 8 years. He can train a student equally well with French bow or German bow, which is quite unusual. My German bow technique is improving with his guidance.

There is never a harsh word from David. He is an accomplished bassist (both classical and jazz music). He observes the student closely and makes astute observations to improve the student's bass knowledge. In my 45 years of playing bass with more than a dozen teachers, David Lester is the absolute best.

David has been a great bass teacher over the last few months. I’d never taken any kind of music lessons before David, just self teaching and casually playing. He’s worked with me to develop everything I’ve missed without lessons: solid hand technique, fundamentals, and how to identify notes. He’s patient and does a great job of giving exercises and songs that are the right level of difficulty. I definitely recommend David if you’re looking to improve your playing.

David taught my son upright bass from Grade 5 to current (Senior in college). He was very accommodating at all times and easy to work with. David interacted very well with me as well as my son; always exhibited a professional demeanor. He stuck with my son's ups and downs through junior high and high school and was always encouraging. He never let him quit the instrument and took an interest in my son's musical and performance goals. He read my son very well and I am sure that it is due in no small part to David that my son was as accomplished as much as he was as a musician in high school and beyond. My son is currently studying jazz performance on the upright bass at Shenandoah University. David is extraordinarily talented and knowledgeable. He plays and teaches upright bass (jazz and classical) electric bass (rock, funk, jazz) and drums. David also knows his way around the piano. David incorporates music theory into the curriculum as well, which is critical for student considering further studies in music. I highly recommend David Lester as a music teacher for students of all levels and experience.

Through out the time that I have been receiving lessons from Mr. Lester I have always enjoyed how he lets the student choose a lot of what they learn and then helps them develop on there interests. The lessons always feel like a collaboration between teacher and students which helps me feel more comfortable when learning.
