My son took lessons from Phil beginning in grade school until the time he entered a music college program. Phil is a wonderful teacher, who knows how to inspire students. Phil helped my son develop the necessary skills, techniques, and understanding of music theory, so my son could pursue his dreams and goals of attending a music academy. Phil challenged my son, without ever being harsh or negative. Phil teaches with a beautiful balance of passion and patience. Phil is a clear communicator and listens to his students. He allows students to enjoy the process, while also helping them focus on the essentials necessary to be a competent musician. I'm grateful that Phil was both an outstanding teacher and role model for my son.

I have been taking music lessons from Phil for the last two years which include piano, drums, guitar, and bass. Phil can absolutely do it all! Out of all the music teachers I have had in my life, Phil has definitely been the most influential. His passion for music and method of teaching really set him apart from the rest. If you want to learn music the right way, Phil is your man. He has helped bring the love of music back into my life. Phil was fantastic. I was looking for someone who could help me with, not just learning the piano, but to be able to break down music pieces and understand how and why they work. The way I learn best is by asking every question on the topic of study that bothers or intrigues me, and he would always answer them patiently, and when he wasn't sure of the answer, he would say so, and get back to it the next class. Another thing I really liked was his interest in the different methods of learning. We had many interesting conversations regarding it, and if I was having difficulty learning something a certain way, I noticed that he would try to explain it in a different way, sometimes even allegorically. Loved his classes, and would totally recommend him for anyone who's looking to enrich their lives with music.

Phil taught both of my children guitar when they were young (13, 8). Besides being an excellent teacher, her was a fine role model regarding how an adult should act, and, now, 14 years later, they are still friends.

Phil is a fantastic music teacher! My husband and I are both musicians, so we are picky. Phil taught our son bass and coached his band, and was a wonderful influence not just musically, but on his life during his teenage years. He makes a great connection with his students and encourages them all the way. The best!

Phil is definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was able to create a curriculum that suited me specifically by mixing extra music theory into regular piano lessons. On top of that, he always made me feel at home in lessons with him, which I feel is extremely important since people learn better in places where they feel comfortable. Ultimately, his skill, musicianship, and great personality make him an amazing teacher that I totally recommend.

My oldest daughter has been taking lessons with Phil for over 3 years and because she loved him so much, my youngest switched from her long time teacher to Phil as well. Phil has a way with my daughters that no other music teacher has. He knows how and when to motivate them intrinsically and when to motivate extrinsically, when to be silly and have fun and when to be serious, when to be patient and when to push. My oldest loving calls him "Silly Strict". He has pushed them through the rough patches when they dont want to practice, helped them hold themselves accountable for their own progress and gotten to know them as a friend. His communication with me as the parent (a non- musician ) is clear and easy for me to understand, and I can genuinely tell he loves teaching my daughters. He strikes the perfect balance of focusing and perfecting technique while allowing student choice and creativity, which really keeps my kids motivated, having fun and loving music.
We drive over an hour each way (sometimes longer) to have lessons with Phil and would probably drive even further if we had to. I credit much of my children's love for music to Phil and hopefully have the privilege of working with him into their adulthood.

I took about 6 years of guitar lessons with Phil about 10 years ago. It obviously went well, because my husband and I started taking piano lessons with Phil this year. Phil is great at teaching music theory alongside the workings of an instrument.
