About George
I love helping people to grow into their passion. To see a student learn and grow gives me a real sense that what I do matters. Life is all about helping others.
I have been a professional musician my entire life. I started with the violin at age 8. I have been playing for 46 years.
I was the band leader and musical director for the Osmonds for 6 years. I was with Bobby Vinton and the Glen Miller Band for a year playing violin and trumpet. I have worked with Bob Hope, Andy Williams and many other major artists. I currently tour with Amanda Cook in her bluegrass band.
I own and operate a small recording studio and I do lots of studio work for various artists and also private individuals.
I am a professional orchestrator and arranger as well.
I started teaching at a local music store when I was 16 to make extra money. But I quickly realized that I love to teach. And even though I have made my living as a professional musician my entire life, I have always maintained a few students. It's just something I really enjoy doing.
I was privately taught as a young person. In school I attended music classes like so many of my clasmates. But I was also working as a professional musician back in those days. I was a full time professional violinist at the age of 14.
My experience level as a professional musician encompasses many genres and levels of expertise. And I have been teaching professinally since I was 16. (38 years).

The most important part of working with a new student is to discover that student's learning style. Everyone learns differently and at diferent rates. So, in the beginning it is all about the teaching learning about the student.
I have worked with a larege variety of students from all age groups. Althouh, these days I prefer to not teach anyone under 5 years of age. But there is no limit on the upper age levels.
Anything from very beginner to very advanced is fine with me.
I might add that with very young beginners that it is best to do those lessons "in person." The online thing is tough with young beginners.
Always remember that being a great musician doesn't make you a great teacher. A teacher has to be a "People Person." And a teacher has to care about the student.
And patience is key!
I have had one student graduate from Berkley with a Master's Degree in Music. And I have had another student graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Tulane University.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should sit down with a piece of paper and a pencil and write down their own goals as a musician. And number those goals.
Under each goal write down what you think might be necessary to accomplish each goal.
Then make each of those steps into a question to ask the teacher to see if the teacher might now how to help in the process of completing these steps.
This is a good way to determine if the teach and the student are a good fit.

I appreciated the amount of knowledge George has to share and the willingness to explain in detail and to take the time to impart the information in a manner that I was able to retain. Looking forward to more in the near future.
The lessons are designed around what you want to learn and how you learn. It's really a wonderful experience working with Mr. Mason!
George is not only a great musician but a great teacher, person, friend, and role model. He can teach at any level. Do not hesitate to have George as your teacher!
