About Lars
I am a college professor with 25 years of experience teaching professional guitarists and music theory. My specialty is the intersectionality between music theory, guitar and performance. I have trained both jazz- as well as classical guitarists at the collegiate level for many years, but enjoy also working with beginning students. I consider a good beginning the most important step towards mastery of anything.
I am a kind and dedicated teacher, in the words of my former students and mentors. I put the needs of my students first and share in their ambitions; I do not impose my ambitions or values on other musicians. I teach with deep respect for the individual.
I had important teachers and mentors in my past. I want to be a part of the legacy that got me started.

I studied with Lars Frandsen at Brooklyn College when I was training to become a high school music teacher. He was the greatest! (Still is). Of course he can teach you technique. But beyond that you will learn how to play guitar musically! By that I mean dynamics, phrasing, gesture - all the things that turn notes on a page into music. I play many styles of guitar in addition to classical, and what I learned from Lars informs everything I play. Studying with him made me a better guitarist and a better musician.
I had studied guitar under Lars Frandsen for 3 years during my time in Brooklyn College's classical-based conservatory. Most of classes proved to be quite stressful, and the culture surrounding classical music can be very competitive. However, amidst all this stress, Doctor Frandsen had created a fun and nurturing environment within our guitar ensemble as well as our private lessons. Lessons that have improved the foundation of my playing as well as my musicianship, and I will always carry them with me.
A sweet guy with a great wealth of knowledge on the guitar, and music as a whole. This is not limited to classical music either, as you will quickly learn he is a very well-rounded and experienced musician whose passion is to support his pupils whom he considers his friends first and foremost.

Right now, I am re-building my private guitar studio. I am still making my living from my two college jobs, so I can price my private lessons at the resonable rate of $50 per 45 minutes. This price is likely to increase in the future. I want to make lessons available to a broad section of the population. My decision to work with a students is determined more by the interest of the student, rather than their financial means.
