About Eric

I enjoy encouraging young students; having grown up in a large international family and led many school organizations (poetry club, literary magazines) as well as sports teams, I like to share, inspire, and motivate. As a full time professional tutor and writer I also like to win writing competitions and be published - on average I have at least an article a week published.

Since age 10 I have completed over 40 non-fiction books, been translated to Spanish, Norwegian, Portuguese, and German, lectured extensively in North America. I not only interpret history, but engage actively in finding relics and graves, planes and ships from World War II, and in getting soldiers recognition. I inspire and challenge students to get out and investigate history.

For history, social studies, and literature, my focus is 20th century and onwards. As a licensed lawyer my focus is on Torts. For SAT and SSAT training (I was 98th %), I teach Reading and English and the optional writing component. I've passed many different multiple choice formats, from law to professional licenses and have worked out some of the rhythms.

Our whole family conversations growing up revolved around history to make our father who had left Europe for the Americas feel more at home - the TV was thrown out, doorways filled in with shelves and books. I particularly like uncovering the original story, the human angle, bringing history to life.

I hope to work with you and your budding graduates! I meet online, in person, whatever works. I'm based in East Boston and have no problem meeting late or early, weekends and holidays. I am also a parent of an 11th grader.

From an online platform I was recruited to an academy focusing on Chinese students and for over a year have been teaching this demographic on Zoom, in person, in classes and one on one tutorials as well as other clients.

As a historian and writer I have written 47 books in many genres including 2 children's book and many on history and WWII. 4 Million words and over 850 articles published since age 10. Extensive travel to 85 countries, ability to "break the ice" in many languages and also relate students to actual places and experiences. I am also a parent of a teen. Went to 2 boarding schools, have applied and been accepted to many schools and universities, have a BA from Boston College, a Juris Doctorate (law) and passed the bar, was 98th percentile in language for SAT (did very poorly in maths!), have a master's degree and studied 1 year at Oxford for the Honors Program of BC, and law in Lisbon and script writing in NYC. I've studied in Bahamas, US, UK, and Portugal.

I listen to the student's needs, assess if they perhaps are over-worked or under-challenged, and for topics such as essay writing which are reliant on self-motivation I try to tailor-fit their abilities and interests and relatability to the task to the task and completing it with a positive outlook.

English speakers, Europeans, Asians (mostly from all over mainland China and Hong Kong, Hainan up to Hubei), the US, and New England. I will teach any student any where anytime, I work from dawn of any day to midnight of any night of the week.

I would not be the right person to teach strictly "rote" curriculum. If you want to learn how to do well and feel well about the process and be motivated, and be realistic and pragmatic, I am the right tutor. I don't try to get students to love the SAT, I try to get them to take the tests and do well on them. I'm a realist. And this has worked well for me and can for you.

My son age 16 and I travelled to Oxford and he ate in a chair which is named after my father his grandfather and I. They planned the D-Day invasions in that dining hall. I sailed to Oxford (Caribbean to Belgium - it took 7 weeks).

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Where will what they learn take them? How can it improve not just their knowledge base but the learning process? If the SAT is not substantive knowledge, in language at least, is it still worth taking? Will standard tests follow us through life? Is writing important?
