About Julia
Welcome! I have 7 years experience teaching social studies classes and have taught everything from Government & Economics to World History and Humanities. I love challenging my students (and myself) to think critical on decisions and their outcomes in history and how that has shaped our modern world. I will encourage to memorize dates and facts, but only so that you have a strong base level of knowledge with which to make connections in history and articulate this dialogue concisely. I majored in Social Studies in college with an emphasis in history and would love to help you excel in these subjects.
Majored in education and got my first job in education 7 years ago.
I've been a teacher for the last 7 years and was also a vice-principal this last year. I have taught social studies classes at the middle and high school levels, including government, economics, U.S. History, World History, World Perspectives, Humanities and Bible. I majored in social studies with an emphasis in history, focusing more indepthly on African history and Civil Rights in the U.S.

Tutoring would begin with getting your academic history in this subject, including strengths and weaknesses, areas you want to focus on and what you hope to get out of tutoring. From there, we would look at your specific course material and create a plan for it.
Middle school and high school students; primarily urban settings; alternative high school
Hire someone who not only will help you pass a class, which is important so that you are not wasting your money, but someone excited and passionate about the subject. Teachers who have enthusiasm for their content are easier to learn from and will make the process easier for you as well.
Graduation at the school I was most recently working at. It was a long road to graduation with COVID-19 pandemic and many of our students struggled to make it to graduation because of the online learning. It took a lot of work to get here and was so special to see students face to face after so long.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think it can be hard to admit when we need help because we've been given messages that we need to be strong enough on our own in regard to everything in life, school included. We all need help. Start by honestly assessing your strengths and weaknesses in regards to learning so that you can honestly tell a teacher what you need and why you need it. Tell a teacher what has worked and what hasn't and ask them what they would do in your situation and how that would turn out differently.
