About Benny
I have been a Deputy District Attorney for over 16 years and a law professor for over 8. In the former occupation, I am regarded nationally as an expert on cyber and privacy issues. I have taught for the National District Attorneys Association, the California District Attorneys Association, the Secret Service, IRS Special Agents, the Capital Police, the Indiana Prosecutors Association, and various trade organizations such as ISSA, ISACA, HTCIA, etc.
I am also a professor of Cyber & Privacy Law in the University of Southern California (USC). At USC, I teach a variety of topics ranging from cyber, criminal justice/law/procedure, privacy law and constitutional law.
In both occupations, I teach legal subjects to diverse individuals with varied knowledge and skills. I have taught experienced and newly licensed attorneys. I have taught undergraduate and law students.
There is no precise method that I use to teach any particular group. Each individual requires a different approach to understanding the material. Instead, I evaluate the level of the student, the area they are studying, the purpose they are studying it, the depth of the required knowledge and the expectations they are trying to achieve.
In order to assist in explaining complex material, I often use real-life examples and demonstrations to illustrate points. When necessary, movie clips are helpful as well. My attitude toward teaching is to get the most out of each student by making materials easy to understand and applicable.
