About Madeline

Hi! My name is Madeline Boreman. I currently work as an Events Manager for CUNY, but before, I was the Education Manager for Figure Skating in Harlem (a figure skating after school program, for 1-12 graders). One of the many things I did as the Education Manager was head our Tutoring Program. However, this is not the only experience I have had with tutoring. I have tutored students (in Reading, Math, and Flute) since I was in middle school. After I graduated from college I joined City Year for two years, where I created lesson plans and tutored groups of students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in both ELA and Math. Since then I have solely worked in education and honed my skills in writing lesson plans. Today, my lesson plans are intentional and holistic. They are not purely academic, as they also contain personal check ins for my students, short game times, and time for reflection. As an educator, I believe it is as important to build rapport and trust with my students as it is to help them with their school work. When a student knows that they can trust me, they open up and share what exactly is making particular school subjects difficult for them. My goal as a tutor is to not only assist my students in their understanding of particular subjects, but to also pinpoint what makes these subjects so difficult (time management, test anxiety, etc.).
