About Kathryn
I have 15+ years of experience teaching various levels of middle school and high school math courses. I have worked with a variety of students at different age levels and skill levels. I have had success working with students individually and enjoy helping them achieve their academic goals.
I spent a year working for AmeriCorps as a reading tutor after college and was amazed at how much these students grew in just a year given just a little extra support. While going to grad school for my education degree, I had the opportunity to work as a teacher's assistant in a special education class. I was able to bring in support materials from my classes and take lead in math lessons. Sometimes I would have to teach lessons multiple ways before they understood the concept. But, seeing the improvements in their skills made it all worth the effort. I have carried these experiences with me into my own classroom and love seeing that moment when students grasp the concept.
I am a NYS certified 7 -12 math teacher and have been working in educational settings for 11 years. I have previously tutored other students and worked as a tutor/small group instructor within various schools.

I like to see how the student is doing on their current material and observe their process while working. Usually a quick observation shows me some strengths and weaknesses that I can begin to work with.
I have worked with students k - 12 of all ability levels.
One of my current students was really struggling with low grades and incomplete assignments during the first quarter and failed my class. This quarter he started coming to extra help, asking questions, and putting more effort into his work. His grades started improving and as that happened he became eager to participate in class, assignments are being completed, no questions are left blank on tests, and his confidence has grown exponentially. He is now passing my class and seeing his enthusiasm in the classroom has had a positive impact on me as well as some of his peers.

Perfect! Katie has helped my daughter a lot. My daughter was having a hard time in Math, she needed that extra one on one support. Katie has help her grow in her Math skills. My daughter now has confidence when she does her homework and work in class. Her math teacher has seen great improvement in her work.
Perfect! Katie has helped my child develop into a stronger math student. In addition to her ability to teach Geometry, she offers tips to help my child organize her material to study effectively. My daughter looks forward to her weekly session with Katie and is happy with her increasing GPA in Honors Geometry.
