About Jay
Hello!
My name is Jay, and I am an ACT/SAT online test prep tutor, specializing in math. I have been teaching this material for well over 5 years indepdently.
My tutoring style differs in that I prescribe daily practice of material. I believe test taking is a skill, and, like any skill, it needs to be practiced regularly in order to be fully developed.
I love getting to know the students I teach. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different interests, and I have so much fun learning from all my students.
I have over 6 years of experience teaching K-12 students at a variety of tutoring centers as well as indepently. I have taken everything I have learned from the places I've worked and synthesized it to what I feel is most effective for students.
I am the son of two college professors - both of whom taught computer programming. Pedagogy was a regular topic of discussion at my family's dinner table, and it is something I am extremely passionate about dissecting and improving.

I always start new students with a diagnostic test. This allows me to see their strengths and weaknesses, and sets up a foundation that we can build on.
Aside from the diagnostic, I always begin by getting to know the student. Building rapport with a student is essential to having a successful experience, so it is very important to me that I take the time to get to know a student's interests, hobbies, and passions.
I have worked with all types of students of all backgrounds, from 4th-12th grade and above. I have experience working with advanced, intermediate, and beginner students, as well as students with developmental impairments and learning disabilities (ADHD).
Make sure they can own up to their mistakes. A person who can't admit their faults cannot learn.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be sure you are ready to learn. There are no such things as teachers because you can't forcably put knowledge into someone's head. A student has to be open and willing to learn before they will find success. I think of myself as a facilitator - I show you the path to knowledge, and it is up to you to do the work to learn.

Test Prep:
- $80/hr (two hour sessions)
OR
- $2,400 for a full 30 hour program (15 two hour sessions), which includes all materials, a score increase guarantee (or 8 free tutoring hours), and flexible scheduling
Subject Tutoring:
- $60/hr (one hour sessions)
OR
- $240-480 monthly (1-2 sessions per week)
