About Yolian
I am a special education teacher with a Masters Degree. I have 4 years experience teaching math from k-8th grades with a large focus on challenging middle school. I can teach your child regardless of ability or disability. I am highly trained in various teaching methods from using manipulatives (objects), incorporating movement, music, or rhyme to teach. After identifying your child's deficits, I can design instruction to meet thier specific needs and increase their achievement.
I enjoy the moment student says "Aha now i get it." I love building a relationship with a student, getting to know them so well and incorporating their likes into a lesson. My passion is ignited when a student is focused, engaged, and thinking about complex problems that are challenging. I am relieved when I see them smiling and enjoying math and disheartened when they are bored and disengaged. Student growth is my priority and I love to be a part of that process
I began as a teachers aide where I completed most of the responsibilities of a teacher. After 1 year as an aide, I then went back to school and finished my masters in 2 1/2 years. I loved the work and i wanted to take on a larger role teaching my students
I have my Masters in Multi-categorical Special Education. I have my Professional Educator License in Illinois and Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement. I am licensed to teach from prek-21 years old. I also have 4 years experience with students in special education with various learning and behavioral disabilities as an employee with Chicago Public Schools. I am also fully bilingual Spanish speaking with a capability to provide instruction with Spanish language support.

I give a pre-assessment to identify the skills deficit. I learn students likes and dislikes through conversation in order to build it into thier educational program. I then pull resources tailored to that students needs, and build a program to address those needs. Once instruction begins, I model step by step. I walk students through the steps as they try together with me. Then they try o thier own, and I give them feedback. The following lesson is based on their performance on their last task, so I can continue to address thier misunderstandings
K-8 students with learning disabilities, severe emotional disabilities, autism, and cognitive delays
Look for a teacher who listens to you, and you feel explains things in a way that makes sense.

Students should ask themselves:
Can I add? Can I subtract? Can I carry borrow multiply and divide? Are any of these really hard? Are word problems hard? What do I find confusing?
