About Deb

I've been in the students' shoes before. I struggled a lot in math throughout middle school and onto the first year of high school. I understand how difficult it feels to just be completely lost in the subject, not knowing where to even start. I soon found a tutor freshman year of high school and that was the best decision I made for my academics. I want students to be able to have the opportunity to not only understand the subject but to fall in love with it.

I want the student to succeed, a typical thing any tutor would say but that is the simple truth of why I do what I do. I've been in the other shoes, the struggling student who wasn't grasping the concepts and it is not a fun place to be. It is vital in those times to have someone who not only cares about your academics but about you as a person. There is no better feeling than when you see your student's face light up because they understand the material!

I was asked if to be a volunteer private tutor at my high school in my junior year and I went from there. Saying yes to that was one of the best decisions I've made!!

I'm currently in college double majoring in Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics. I've done up to Calculus 1 in college-level math. Along with that, throughout my last two years of high school, I was a volunteer private math tutor for my high school. Once I moved to Arizona, I worked for a tutoring company for a few months but unfortunately had to leave due to the hours given.

Before getting into the material, I find it very important to get to know the student first. I believe it is vital for the student to know that their voice is heard. After a small introduction, we'll dive into the subject: what the student is learning at the moment, what materials they grasp, and then those they are not grasping as quickly. When working with a new student, I would offer a few quick practice problems of the different areas in the material they're learning to really see first hand what they're struggling with.

In my private tutoring, I worked with high school students from 9-12 grade levels. Once I began working at a center, I was working with students ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade.

It is okay for you to not understand everything. I think the biggest thing students struggle with is admitting they need help. There is nothing wrong with needing help after all even those teaching have questions as well.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you have an idea of how to figure out the problem, do it, even if you get the problem wrong, let your mind expand. There is nothing wrong with getting the problem wrong because it shows you care enough to try and that is all that matters. It matters if the student is trying not if they get all the problems correctly the first time.

I've chosen to start off at $15 per hour which is usually how long one session is. For those sessions that are longer than an hour, the price still stays at $15 an hour.
