About Douglas
I love Math and understand and care about those struggling to succeed. For me, and I believe for most students, the key to Math above elementary level is knowing, and understanding multiplication in all it's forms. While I greatly respect the classroom teacher, most school situations do not allow the teacher the personal time some students need, and the teacher wants to give. Consequently, a student who can just get by in elementary school, becomes lost and discouraged when faced with Algebra and Geometry.
I am a retired military officer with an additional thirty-plus years as a systems engineer. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business and Math, and a Master's degree in Systems Management. I've been an instructor and computer course director in the military; in addition to the many opportunities to teach, instruct, and mentor young adults in my military and civilian careers. I tutored professionally for a local company for a year, and have tutored voluntarily for the local high school and local GED assistance center for the last five years.
I've taught Sunday School, coached Little League and Youth Soccer, served as a Cub Scout Master, and participated in many of the activities my four adult children enjoyed when they were young.
Watching the "now I get it" light go on, and the growing realization that Math is not as "awful" as they thought. My students say I am a great tutor; I try to make the time with them enjoyable; I treat them with respect; and believe that learning includes the right attitude and an understanding of why they are being "tortured" to learn this "stupid subject." (Big smile on my face!)
Bachelors degrees in Business and Math. Masters degree in System Management. 40 years as a defense contractor, 20+ years as a militarty officer. 5 years part time tutoring high school math. Married 44 years with 4 adult children and 4 grandchildren. Madison County resident for 35 years.
