About Carol
I received a Bachelor Degree Majoring in Mathematices from Mercer University. I was certified and have taught Middle and High School Math for three years in the public and private sector. In addition, I was the Senior Math Coordinator at Sylvan Learning Center for 9 years. I enjoy, and have a hugh desire to always help others. I work well with kids and young adults and strive to help them better understand difficult mathematical concepts. I have always kept up on the current teaching trends and can deminstrate concepts in the way the student is being taught in school. But I also try to, when I know it will not confuse the student, deminstrate a different technique that they can use to do the same type problems. I have always tried to teach my students that most math problems can be solved in different ways and all of them will lead them to the same correct answer. I have learned through my experience that it is not the quanity you do but the quality of the problems you work. So when helping someone, I try to show them techniques that will make the concept easier for a person to grasp. To help them retain the concept, I deminstrate how it is used by working and explaining a problem fully. I then have the student solve one and ask any questions they have. Then they are asked to solve a few problems using the concept that we went over to have them deminstrate they learned the concept. Then to make sure that the concept is retained to long term memory, I have them solve a few problems the next two to three times we work together.
I have always been a person that likes to help others and work well with kids. I try to make sure the student truly understands the concept and fell better about themselves because they have learned something that has troubled them.
I have always wanted to teach. I was originally going into special education when I started college. On quarter my best friend in college was having trouble with College Algebra. So, as I always do, I helped him through it. He told me that I needed to teach math, of all things, since it was my favorite subject because he understood me better than his professor.
I have a Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Mathematics from Mercer University.

I work with students and the concepts that they are having trouble with by first showing them how to solve problems they are having trouble with by working a couple of problems together. I then have them solve a couple asking questions to practice this. They then have to solve a couple on their own. Then the next few times we work together I have them deminstrate that they remember that concept by solving a few problems.
I have worked with upper elementary to college level students.
Make sure that they have you demonstrate that you learned the concept and not just do it for you.
I love my nieces dearly since I can not have children of my own and have helped or will help them all through math. My oldest niece has now graduated college. She tells me all the time that she is grateful that I was there for her and helped her understand math as she was going through school. My two youngest nieces are in elementary school and I am making sure they have that same understanding as they go through school. All of my students become a part of of me and it is my joy to help as many as I can conqure there knowlege of math concepts.
