About

Hi! I'm currently an undergrad student-entrepreneur at UMass Amherst, and I've had 4+ years of peer tutoring in advanced math and computer science. I've gotten a 5 in my AP Calculus AB test, and I spent my high school summers attending Harvard Summer School where I peer tutored in Calculus 1 & 2. I'm also highly proficient in problem-solving, multivariable calculus, and standardized math tests such as the ACT & SAT (760 Math & 34 Math respectively).

I think it's very important to approach math by establishing simple and easy-to-learn concepts early, in order to get rid of 'math anxiety', and practice similar problems, to build confidence. These two ingredients have proved, what I've noticed over the years, that anyone can improve and achieve their desired math goals.

I'd love the opportunity to help you out and work together on your math problems, so feel free to reach out to me and schedule a time:) Meanwhile check me out on LinkedIn: (concealed information)

I love seeing it when my students get the 'click' when learning a certain concept, or working through a problem. I've had a knack for problem-solving, and it brings me great joy when I can share that contagious feeling with someone else!

As I mentioned above, I've always gotten through my upper math-level classes with flying colors. I've built on my math skillset even more by teaching math concepts and their tricks, tools, and helpful short cuts, while also giving helpful practice problems to cement their understanding of the concept.

I've received a 760 on the Math Section of the SAT and received a 5 in AP Calculus AB and a 4 in AP Calculus BC. Other than that I've always received strong grades in my math classes.

As an undergraduate student applying to my first tutoring job, the closest experience I have with tutoring is peer tutoring via a Math Honor Society/Club. Throughout high school and college right now I've dedicated myself to volunteer 2-3 hours every week to tutor my peers who came to "Math Lab", where I'd clarify math-related questions and concerns.

Well first, after introducing themselves and having them explain to me what they'd like me to go over, I'd assess whether they need to get a topic conceptually cleared up or if they just need extra practice. I can pull these practice problems using my previous AP Calculus textbooks, that way I wouldn't be able to give faulty solutions to the examples I'll provide. As for concepts, my fundamentals are fairly strong, so I'll try to condense the topic at hand in approximately 3-4 minutes, which will be easy to digest and understand better.

I've worked with mostly high schoolers and at times college students.

First of all, it's very important to see if a tutor can provide the right value on the very first session itself. I've been in this position many times when I tried to find a tutor for English/Reading Comprehension, so I sent a syllabus/list of complex ideas that I would want to go over the period of a few weeks. I would suggest that a student do the same thing, and then the tutor and the student would be able to assess accurately if they'd be a good fit!

I'd also recommend that the student look to be matched with a tutor 3 or more Math levels above than the student. Since higher math courses build on the fundamentals, you can be absolutely sure that the tutor has a good grip on the subject at hand!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Here are a couple of questions I found useful to ask my Math professors in high school and college as well:

What are the academic standards for this class? (i.e. What's covered on the syllabus?)

What are the big complex ideas I should be fluent in at the end of the course?

What's the pace/speed of the course? (i.e How many topics are we expected to cover on a weekly/monthly basis?)

What are the different resources that are provided/suggested to support my learning?

What are the most common barriers most students face when taking this course?
